Our plan is to operate our business with a green office. Where possible, we will choose the green option for anything in our business. Within reason, and without compromising on our profitability as a business. We will implement the following:
- Try and source as many of our products locally manufactured to miminise travel kms, helping Aussie jobs also.
- Our office is as green as we can get it. We do this by doing the following:
- Try and print on 100% post consumer stock for as much as possible
- All the stationary in our office is green where possible. Ie recycled paper, envelopes, green manila folders and files, even 100% recycled plastic in trays
- We ventilate our office naturally 90% of the time rather than use airconditioning/heating
- We have a compost bin outside for all lunch scraps
- We pay for recycling services for all our waste ie cardboard, bottles etc
- We use local suppliers for our business supplies wherever possible
- Our team recycles approx 70% of our waste
- Where possible, we get our bills online instead of mailed
- We minimize printing within the office, and any leftover printing is recycled into small bound note books for reuse
- We purchase 100% green electricity
- Our work cars fill up on Ethanol 10 premium fuel, hopefully burning cleaner
- We use a local organic health food store for our breakfast meetings and any office catering
- Our fridge is stocked with organic wine and green beers, and we have a big bowl of organic apples from the farmers markets which our staff eat as snacks and we replenish weekly
- We encourage our staff to ride their bikes to work
- We have a Wednesday picnic day where we all bring a plate and we share our lunch and stories
- We have a small library of green books for staff to read about ways they can reduce their own footprints
- We subscribe to 2 different green magazines for all our team to read
- Attend local community events and hand out seedlings. We handed out 1000 seedlings at Greenfest 2009 and in 2010 we handed out 300 seedlings at Morningside State School
- We won the Solahart 2009 National Environmental Award for our green ways
- We facilitated a green audit of St Peter & Pauls School OHSC to help them identify areas they could be greener. We then conducted a workshop with staff to help them see ways they could all practice a greener approach
- We are currently getting into LED lighting and we will change over all our office lighting to LED bulbs
